Baby on board

The mortality rate of women around pregnancy and childbirth is unacceptably high. According to the World Health Organisation, about 830 women die every day worldwide due to complications.

Main reasons are lack of knowledge about health, pregnancy, sex, and lack of basic health care. The practice of female genital mutilation and child marriage and HIV/AIDS issues exacerbate this.

As many women in the Arab world frequently discuss their (personal) problems with another woman in the back seat of a taxi, Arab Vision has produced TV programmes in such a setting on topics around pregnancy, sex, health and childbirth. In the programmes, the women chat pleasantly and happily about pregnancy and then immediately talk about how to stay healthy, how to recognise signs that a pregnancy is not going well, superstitions around pregnancy and birth, and how and what medical support to seek.

Baby on board consists of 13 episodes. The series has been broadcast on satellite TV and used on social media.
