Based on John 8:12: I am the light of the world and Matthew 5:14: You are the light of the world.
When Jesus personally came to this world, he was the light of the world in word and deed, or rather, in deed and word. He calls us to be the light of the world. Actually, he does not call, but simply states that his followers are the light of the world. So let your light shine for others, that they may see your good deeds and honour your Father in heaven, He said.
We have produced short video clips during the time from Christmas 2019 to Easter 2020 that address the principles and actions of Jesus and offer concrete ideas on how Christians are the light of the world if they follow Jesus' example. The clips are a mix of drama snippets from the Jesus film and drama produced specifically for this, to show clearly what it means to be 'the light of the world'.
Here are some examples:
- Lighten one's burdens (Matthew 11:28-30) Look around and become aware of people who need help to carry their burdens, and extend a helping hand.
- Feed the hungry (Mark 6:41) Jesus fed the 5,000 and enlisted his disciples in the process. Invite a needy person you know to come and eat with you.
- Heal the sick Pray with those who are sick, visit them.(Matthew 25:36) Something practical: donate blood so that others can be helped.
- Caring for the stranger (Matthew 25:35) Invite refugees to a meal. Help them so they can find their way again, be hospitable.
- Visit the lonely Visit a care home or nursing home; at least 60% of the people there almost never get visitors. Invite a widow or widower for a meal.
