(A Chaste Girl) - a film about FGM
A long tradition teaches that girls are more chaste if they are circumcised. Although female circumcision is formally banned and illegal in Egypt, the percentage of girls who are circumcised is still very high. Arab Vision has been working for years to raise awareness and stimulate conversation about this terrible practice. The film 'A chaste girl' shows women and girls talking openly, though sometimes with some embarrassment, about the subject that is still taboo for many. It has become a probing film, without acting, pure. The raw reality of circumcision and its impact on young women's sexuality and on their relationships with their husbands comes out uncensored.
The film production has been completed. Broadcasting partner Sat7 will broadcast the film via satellite TV. We are using the short 5-minute clips on social media to engage with people on this extremely delicate subject.
