Many in the Middle East have lost hope, are broken and traumatised. War and conflict, persecution, being a refugee... plenty of reasons why people carry trauma. Often, trauma is not recognised or acknowledged for what it is, and thus not treated (appropriately). Our team is in contact with highly professional trauma specialists, and together with them we have developed a training in trauma care.
The training was given to our own follow-up team and to follow-up workers outside our organisation, filmed, and made available as training videos to social and pastoral workers and other professional aid workers. The 28 trainees are of Egyptian, Yemeni, Sudanese and Syrian origin; some of them are refugees themselves and they have experienced trauma, persecution and loss first-hand.
