From despair to the Light of Christ

On a deserted motorway, Samir’s life was shattered. A horrific car crash robbed him of his ability to walk, and with it, the meaning of his existence. After spending years within the sterile walls of the hospital, he had become a prisoner: of his wheelchair, his unrelenting pain and a suffocating despair.

Samir wondered what the purpose of his life was. Every day he searched for a way out of his torment. Was suicide the answer? On a cold, stormy night, Samir wrestled with God. It was no routine prayer, but a cry from the heart of a broken man begging God to give him peace and a purpose in life.

That very night, the answer came in a vision. Samir saw Jesus on the cross, but the nails in His hands and feet were mysteriously covered by black cloths. He reached out, removed the cloths and saw blood flowing. At that moment, Samir’s confession rang out: ‘He really did die for us!’

He woke up the next morning feeling a lightness he had never known before. The heavy burden on his soul was gone. The thoughts of suicide had vanished completely, like mist in the morning sun.

Six months later, Samir was baptised. Although his body is confined to a wheelchair, his spirit is free. Today, he shares the story of Christ’s love with those around him. Samir’s journey of faith continues with us through an online discipleship course, in which he builds on the Rock, Jesus, who rescued him from despair and gave him life.
